Open Data Hackathon 2025 – Smart Economy
04 Mar 2026
The *Open Data Hackathon 2025 – Smart Economy*, organised by the Hong Kong Technology Advancement Group (HKtag) and supported by relevant partners including the Digital Policy Office, successfully concluded with its award ceremony held on 7 February 2026 at Cyberport.
We are proud to announce that our student *2A Wong Man Sum, Vincent* secured *Third Prize* in this prestigious competition with his innovative project, *Textsy* — an AI-powered marketplace designed specifically for Hong Kong students.
Aligned with the hackathon’s “Smart Economy” theme, Textsy promotes a circular economy for textbooks by creating an efficient platform for buying, selling, and reusing second-hand educational materials. The project effectively integrates open data from *data.gov.hk* and the *Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI)* portal to enable features such as smart matching of buyers and sellers, AI-driven condition verification of textbooks, and secure escrow for transactions.
This creative solution not only reduces financial waste on new textbooks but also advances educational sustainability and resource efficiency in Hong Kong through impactful open-data utilisation and scalable AI technology.
Congratulations to Vincent on this outstanding achievement! His success highlights the talent and innovative spirit of our students in leveraging technology and open data to address real-world challenges.
We look forward to seeing more groundbreaking ideas from our school community in future competitions.
