Principal’s Message
I would like to welcome everyone for another academic year. In particular, I would extend a special warm greeting to the students and parents who have just joined our community.
I would like to introduce our school development plan, which focuses on effective learning skills and a healthy lifestyle. Before I go into detail, let me first engage you with an experience just a month ago. As I was sitting on the stage in a prize presentation ceremony at the Po Leung Kuk headquarters, witnessing the largest group of top scorers come from our school among all Po Leung Kuk secondary schools, a thought went through my mind. I wondered whether these elite students got such outstanding DSE results solely because of 6 years of hard work.
Then, I asked two of our top scorers, and I discovered that they were not top students in their junior forms. They shared their stories of learning with me. The key takeaway from our conversation is that attitude and perseverance are the keys to success. It is not realistic to expect that a set of study skills and subject knowledge will sufficiently prepare you for the rest of your life. Ahead of our students is a lifelong journey of continuous learning, relearning, and upskilling.
Therefore, my advice to our students is to work hard. ‘A good beginning is half the battle.’ There is no easy path to success. At the same time, I hope our students can have faith in our team. We will accompany you all the way and support you in whatever way we can.
With these in mind, I am excited to share with you three new initiatives tailor-made for our students:
- Global Study Week: Starting this year, we will implement a “Global Study Week” in each term, in which our students will be able to immerse themselves in different cultures, languages, and perspectives from around the world. These study tours and overnight training sessions foster self-discipline and leadership quality and prepare our students for the interconnected world.
- Regular Hall Assembly: We will also launch a new “Values Education Framework” through a series of regular hall assemblies. These sessions will provide a platform for our students to engage with experts, community leaders, alumni and peers on various aspects such as ethics, social responsibility, and personal growth.
- A Second Recess: In response to the new EDB guidelines and with our students’ healthy development in mind, we will add one more recess to the regular school timetable. We believe providing more opportunities for physical activity and unstructured play contributes to students’ overall well-being and helps our students become even more engaged and effective in the classroom.
Lastly, I wish all our students an excellent start to the new academic year. Thank you.
