Innovations and Contributions to Tuen Mun
1978 – 1979
- In 1978, the Po Leung Kuk Board of Directors invested $1.5 million to establish the school, coinciding with Po Leung Kuk’s centennial celebrations, thus naming it Po Leung Kuk Centenary College.
- The school began operations in September as a caput school, utilizing afternoon sessions at Po Leung Kuk’s fifth primary school in Tai Hing Estate, Tuen Mun. It started with eight Form 1 classes, marking the first Po Leung Kuk secondary school in the New Territories.
- The 1st athletics meet was held on January 03, 1979, at Yuen Long Stadium, officiated by Mr. LEUNG Chung-shun, Chief Education Officer of the New Territories.

1978 – The school building under construction, laying foundations for future generations
1980 – 1981
- Expansion to 24 classes from Forms 1 to 3, with students sitting the first Junior Secondary Education Assessment in 1981.
- Participation in the 1st Po Leung Kuk Inter-school Swimming Gala
1984 – 1985
- Expansion to include classes up to Form 7 (30 classes in total), with the first cohort participating in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination.
1986 – 1987
- Expansion to 32 classes to alleviate the shortage of secondary school places in the Tuen Mun area.
- Launch of the Student Post.
1988 – 1989
- At the end of 1988, the covered playground was converted into three classrooms to reduce the need for floating classes.
- The 1st Swimming Gala was held at the Tuen Mun Swimming Pool.
1979 – 1980
- The new school building was completed in September, allowing relocation to Tai Hing Estate with sixteen classes across Forms 1 and 2.
- Transition to a government-subsidized school began, with the opening ceremony held on January 28, 1980, officiated by Mr. Kenneth Topley, the Director of the Education Department, and followed by the school’s 1st open day.
1981 – 1982
- Official establishment of various administrative committee, including Curriculum, Discipline, Guidance, and Co-Curricular Activities.
1982 – 1983
- Completion of the transition to a government-subsidized school.
- Introduction of Computer Studies in Form 4, making the school among the first thirty-three in Hong Kong to offer this program.
- The first batch of Form 5 students sat the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination.
1985 – 1986
- Establishment of the Student Union to enhance communication between the school and the students.
1987 – 1988
- The 10th Anniversary Celebration on February 10 featured a “Education for Living” student work exhibition at Tuen Mun Town Hall, inaugurated by Mr. LEUNG Kwok-sum, Senior Education Officer of Tuen Mun, and Mr. LAM Sai-ying, Director of Po Leung Kuk Board of Directors. The evening featured a Variety Show in the auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall, officiated by Mr. Edward YAU Tang-wah, Senior Administrative Officer, and Mr. CHAO King-lin, Vice-Chairman of Po Leung Kuk Board of Directors.

Strategic Enhancements and Technological Advancements
1989 – 1990
- In the summer of 1990, the school developed its own software to computerize the library system.
1991 – 1992
- Participated in the Education Department’s “Co-organizing Matriculation Classes Scheme” in September. An extra Form 6 class was run in collaboration with Po Leung Kuk Tang Yuk Tien College.
1992 – 1993
- Continued collaboration with Po Leung Kuk Tang Yuk Tien College, the scheme was concluded successfully in July.
1996 – 1997
- Vice Principal Mr. LAM Kam-leung served as Acting Principal starting in September.
- Dr. TSE Kum-shing was appointed as the second principal in December.
- The government funded enhancements to school facilities, including adding an extra floor with classrooms and an elevator, completed in August 1997.
- Establishment of the Parent-Teacher Association to foster stronger community ties.
1998 – 1999
- Received $1.2 million funding from the Education Department for an IT education initiative, significantly enhancing the school’s computer facilities and network.
- Approved as an English Medium of Instruction (EMI) school, becoming one of 114 secondary schools authorized to instruct exclusively in English.
- Reduced the number of Form 1 classes from five to four to minimize the number of floating classes.
- Welcomed Ms. Hamill as the 1st Native-Speaking English Teacher (NET).
- The library was renamed New York Life Library on March 08.
1990 – 1991
- In December, the school board allocated $120,000 for a school-based computer network to facilitate the computerization of administrative and teaching resources.
- In May, the school board sponsored the installation of air conditioners in the library, administrative office, staff rooms, and the audio-visual room.
1993 – 1994
- Adopted the “School Management Initiative” to enhance school-based management.
1995 – 1996

- Mr. TSE Kam-shing retired, and Mr. KWAN Ting-fai was appointed as the third principal.
- Reduced one class from both Form 1 and Form 2, resulting in four classes per grade.
2000 – 2001
- To address the shortage of school places in Tuen Mun, an additional class was added to Form 1, progressively restoring five classes per grade from Form 1 to Form 5.
- September 30: The Student Union celebrated its 15th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in student governance and involvement.

2001 – 2002
- Mr. KWAN Ting-fai retired, with Mr. TING Wing-hing appointed as the fourth Principal.
- Secured a $1.3 million grant from the Quality Education Fund to establish a Multimedia Learning Center, enhancing technological learning capabilities.
- Launched the inaugural overseas learning exchange activity with a summer English language course in Australia.
2003 – 2004
- Established the Student Affairs Committee to better manage student-related activities.
- Held the official celebration ceremony, officiated by Mr. Andrew POON Chung-shing, Principal Assistant Secretary (Quality Assurance) of the Education and Manpower Bureau.
- Hosted the Creative Arts Exhibition “創藝展華匯百中” open day.
- Official closure of the evening school session, marking the end of its mission to serve the community.

- In June, the Po Leung Kuk Board of Directors allocated $8 million for the construction of a new annex to accommodate growing student needs.
- Launched the “賞心樂事獎勵計劃”
2010 – 2011

2002 – 2003
Marked the 25th Anniversary with a week dedicated to both teachers and students, celebrating the school’s legacy and achievements.
2004 – 2005
- Implemented the school development and accountability framework with the initiation of the first three-year development plan.
- Established the campus greening committee, enhancing the aesthetics of the backyard corridor and gardens.
2006 – 2007
- Underwent the first external school review by the Education Bureau, receiving high commendations.
- Began the implementation of a school-based Liberal Studies curriculum for the first year.
2009 – 2010
- Rolled out the new senior secondary curriculum, adjusting elective subject combinations based on student preferences and feedback (over 90% student satisfaction rate).
- Held the groundbreaking ceremony for the new annex in February 2010, marking a significant expansion in school facilities.

2013 – 2014
- Renovation and naming of the school hall as “Ngan Po Ling Hall”
- Modification of the First Examinations vs Yearly Examinations weighting from 50%:50% to 45%:55%.
2015 – 2016
- 30th anniversary celebration of the Student Union.
- Renovation of the staff room completed in September; came into operation from October.
- Establishment of the Careers Room.
- Implementation of a Life Enrichment Camp for Form 2 students.
