Our recent senior form geography field trip to Fukuoka, Japan, was an enlightening experience filled with natural beauty and geological wonders. Here’s a glimpse of the remarkable sites we visited along our journey. 

We began our adventure at the majestic Aso volcano, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes. Here, we delved into the fascinating world of volcanism and its significant impacts on agricultural development and traditional practices in Japan. The unique geological features of Aso not only shaped the landscape but also influenced local farming techniques and cultural traditions. 

Next, we travelled to Itoshima, where we explored stunning coastal and fluvial landforms. Our visit featured breathtaking waterfalls and dramatic sea cliffs, showcasing the dynamic interplay between land and water. One of the highlights was observing the special rock formations, including the impressive hexagonal columns that tell the story of the region’s geological history. 

Our field trip to Fukuoka left us with lasting memories and a deeper understanding of the geological marvels that influence both the environment and the traditions of Japan.
