Project Descriptions:
Inspired by the filtering mechanism of whale baleen, our model is a portable and sustainable oil purification system designed to be attached to ships. It efficiently converts used vegetable oil and animal fats into fuel, providing an alternative energy source for powering the ships or for storage purposes. By reducing the negative impact of pollutants on marine life, we aim to achieve a harmonious balance between humans and aquatic animals. The key scientific principle behind our model is transesterification, which is a chemical process in which the organic group of an ester exchanges with the organic group of an alcohol to produce biodiesel and glycerol.
